Who's that guy ?
Hi, I'm Tim ! And welcome in my portfolio !
This website is made of course to showcase my works and skills, but mostly to give a little bit more background to the cold and pragmatic resumé ( which is linked here, in case you want to take a peek). The resumé may tell you what I did, but won't tell you who I am. So If you think about hiring me (and please do), this portfolio might help you make your choice. So who am I ? I'm 25, I come from Paris and I am currently in a Game design master. If now I know I love working on games, it wasn't obvious at beginning ... |

EIGSI school of engineering - La Rochelle , France
After Highschool, I went for an engineering school. You can work abroad, there is jobs, you make a good money while working on technicals challenges, sounded good to me. And who doesn't want to be Iron-man ? Of course, they doesn't teach you how to be iron-man, but I managed to learn my share of math and physics. If the intellectual challenge was there, some vital component for me was still missing : fun. You can find fun in math and physics, of course (I think). But I got into engineering with dream closer to fantasy than reality. Maybe it wasn't the right place for me. So after 3 years, I left. This time with a more realistic mindset : I don't care if it's make good money or if there is jobs safety. i want to work for something fun ( the "working abroad" part was still a criteria) |
IIM - School of multimedia - la Défense , France
After la Rochelle, I didn't want to rush head on to a new field of study. I joined the IIM for in prepa year : one year when you can have courses from the 6 fields. Then at the end, you have to choose in what field to specialize. Sounded perfect, since i was hesitating between 3D modeling and Web-design. But during this years, I got classes on the video game industry : how to make them and how to make a living of it. I never considered working in video games until then. So far it was a child's dream "I want to be a video game tester !". Well, there was my occasion, so I headed-on into the video-game industry. And this time , I was sure and really excited about it. So after the general bachelor ("Multimedia project manager"), I went fo the Master in Game-design where i study the fundamental of game design, the differents types of Game design, and study cases. During this time, i was also asked to find a 6 month internship. While searching for this intership, i learned something valuable : "You need experience to get an intership. But you need to do interships to gain experience". But through wind and tides, one company in paris gave me my chance. |

Green panda games - Mobile game publisher - Paris
It was Green panda games who gave me my first job. Green panda games (aka GPG) is a mobile game publisher company specialized in the Idle Gaming. I entered as a QA tester for the published games. It was awesome for 4 reasons : -First I knew nothing about the Mobile gaming industry (which is a shame since it's half of the jobs market). Now i have a better grasp of the market. -Second, I joined at the very beginning of the GPG QA team. My boss arrived in Green panda 1 month before I do. I was the first stone on which he built the QA team ( and what a stone) -I aslo knew basically nothing about QA testing. During those 6 month i had the chance to learn the QA process / best practces. I also had the oportunity to make "Advance QA" where i tested the functionning of Ads networks (as fundamental as the game itself for a Ad revenue based game). And also do Events tracking with Facebook analytics. -And of course, all the co-workers were awesome, big up for them. |
Abertay University - Dundee, Scotland
During the Master, i got the opportunity to spend a semester abroad. I chose to go to Abertay University for it's reputation for Video game teaching. There, I followed 3 courses : - "3D environnement production" where i learned how to model and texture a video game environement, mostly with Unreal engine 4. Also learned how to set light and effects to give more peps. -"Leadership & Production". More of a producer oriented course, it was studying the best and worst practice in a production, with study cases on famous company with bad leadership experience. -"Creative industry" or "How to get a job". This course was mostly about knowing your industry to get the best opportunities. So even if these courses weren't exactly pure game design, i managed to learn a lot in all the other field. I'm not saying that i could do all the jobs, i still prefer game design. But With my humble scripting and modeling skills, i am now able to prototype faster and better. And I have a better comprehension of other jobs. The idea was the better I understand other people work, the easier it will be to work and interact with them. Future will tell if it's a good strategy. |
